Been reading about Dillon, anyone use one?
Anyone else re-load on here? I do some rifle and pistol stuff but been thinking about getting a progressive loader.
Any suggestion or recommendations on a good dependable setup?

I use a Mec 9000, 2 Jr.s, 2 Versa-Mecs and a RCBS Turret. They all have a place. 9000 for dove and target, I have a 12ga. set up for 3½" and one 20ga. and 10ga. and another 12ga. for specialty things. I reload .270,.44mag, .380 auto and 220 Swift.
Bel, do you have time for anything else.
We need you here, you gotta have some pointers.
So if you where going to buy or recommend just one, which would it be?

Bel,
Is there one you would recommend strictly for 10ga?
MEC
The MEC Jr. or VersaMec are good reloaders that you don't have to spend a fortune to own. My 10ga. is a Jr. But one tip is to get a Universal Charge bar. I have one on each loader. I scale powder until I get consistent drops and then run with it. If I'm running hunting loads for Waterfowl, etc. and I'm using a powder(like STEEL) that doesn't meter well, I haul my digital scale into the living room and turn one a hunting video and scale all my powder for a specific load. I pour each load of powder into film canisters. I do the same for Hevishot. Then I get to the reloading bench I resize the hull, deprime, prime, dump powder, wad, dump shot and crimp. Very accurate, consistent loads. I also use Super Sizers for hunting loads.
Here is a shot I just took of the regular bench(it's a little cluttered, dove season started yesterday and I was in a hurry).

Nice bench Bill, If I was to strictly reload steel, what would you get(steelMaster)? Does the one for steel have problems metering the powder as you was talking about above?

Zan.......what is happening??? How is everyone??
STEEL powder is so bulky it meters poorly, but well enough to use in the Steelmaster press! Steelmaster also has the Super Sizer built in. Good press!!
We're doing ok Bill, getting ready to wack some of those lil marsh rockets. How's things your way?

Can't seem to find the PICS of my Reloading Room, but it will let you keep up with the shells you need. Then I have a Chucker Press for Rifle & Pistol reloading. cooter

I've reloaded and cast bullets and shot for over 40 years. I use a Dillon RL550 progressive for pistol and a Bonanza CoAx for rifle and pistol. Both great presses and have stood the test of time admirably. For shotshell MEC 10Ga and 12 Ga. I had a progressive press made by another manufacturer but like all progressive loaders they are finicky only this particular shotshell progressive was just too finicky for me. I'm considering a new MEC progressive. Also all my shotshelll presses have been for lead and I need to upgrade at least the 10Ga for steel and maybe buy a new MEC steel for the 12Ga. It really depends on how much shooting you do, if you are into competition by all means by a progressive but the average guy could get by very well without the expense of the progressive and have the added feature of flexibility of cases and shot etc., not so with the progressive as it is set to load one particular load in one particular case, great if all your cases are the same though. The metalics are different because its just a powder adjustment followed by a seater depth adjustment not so easy in my experience with the shotshell progressive loaders.
update: Also look under "fasteel reloading".
I upgraded both Sizemasters to steel. 12 and 10 ga. Added the quick kit to change from 2-3/4 to 3" on the 12 ga but will only use 3-1/2 in the 10 ga.
I decided to sell all my wads and shot and charge bars for LEAD and go all steel including target ammo and have listed those loads on the other room topic. I understand what you have said Bel about the bulky "Steel" powder but I use a Ballistic Products funnel adapter for the powder measure and bored a MEC bushing and so far have checked every 25 shells and it is metering within a tenth or so of my desired weight however the shot is low by a few pellets and this is consistent over a cpl bags of shot and bottles of powder. I will continue to monitor both the shot and powder for safety sake.
Using standard powders with a history of consistent thrown weights and lead shot I would opt for a Mec Grabber but with a sizemaster turned into a Steel master and using bulky powder and steel shot I would stick to a single stage reloader notwithstanding the consistency I am currently having with the fixed charge bar and bored bushing.
One other quirk with the steel shot is that it answers a come command when approached with a magnet! I wonder though if magnetized shot has any affect on the pattern board?????
