"an no more talk about Roxie's ECollar fetish"....yeah...I definetly regretted that whe nI read it...even made MYSELF wanna throw up....lol

Tim...how about a little hypo to generate some discussion?

Lab...been through FF, CC'ed to sit, here, and heel. Begins CC'ing to fetch. Dog is fairly soft, but not overly so. First session goes well, no marked improvement, but no problems either. Second session...dog flips out...MAJOR bugging...trying to bite trainer...scratches up trainers arm pretty badly. For the next week, sessions go similarly. Dog hasn't had any of these problems with the CC process before this. What to do?

(I'll give the "answer"...what I did...after a few posts)

Here's what worked for me in the scenario above...after a weeks worth of training and her doing this, we took 4 or 5 days off. Nothing. no marks, no nothing. Picked it back up. First session was less than 5 minutes. Gave her a day off. Second session was about 5 minutes...gave her a day off. At this point she is still flipping out. We settled into an every other day training schedule, less than 10 minutes every time. It took about a week of this for her to quit flipping out and to figure out what to do with the collar pressure.

For this dog, she just couldn't handle the training sessions with this kind of stuff everyday. She had to have those days off for her mental well-being.

Man that SOFT dog could be mine had problems just like that. I did CC correctly and have yet to go back to CC fetch and FTP. Very stable with CC now used very short training days and a day off here and there. I'm gonna use the days off program if I need to for CCfetch anfd FTP.
Great Info Thanks for the Thread.

Good info Flying T... well done....
I have trained, hunted and trialed labs over 20 years.... an e-collar can be your best training aid or the worst thing you did for yur dog.
That is very good info posted... please take the USE and DIRECTION of an e-collar very carefully.

Come to the Backwater Outdoors Radio show this Sunday and listen to Somitt Labs discuss use of e- collars and technique with it... only on ESPN 1040 or www.espn1040.com
IF NOT listen to us here on HC under multimedia and archived shows... yur not gonna want to miss it!
Questions for the experts... call in-studio live at 877-777-9426
